Solution Focused Hypnotherapy
Many people associate Hypnotherapy with giving up smoking, weight loss or stage entertainment, however, in reality there are many serious problems that it has been known to help such as, lack of self confidence, low self esteem, anger/anxiety/stress, fears and phobias and many other issues that are psychological in origin.
My name is Sharon Dyke, I am a Taunton based Clinical Hypnotherapist.
Hypnotherapy is a combination of psychotherapy and hypnosis, and whilst psychotherapy is in itself is extremely beneficial its effects are enhanced by the application of hypnosis, which enables the subconscious mind to make vital changes for the clients benefit.
The model I deliver is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, often referred to as simply 'solution focused therapy' or 'brief therapy', it is a type of talking therapy that is based upon a social constructionist philosophy.
It focuses on what clients want to achieve through therapy rather than on the problem(s) that made them to seek help.
The approach does not focus on the past, but instead, focuses on the present and future.
As the therapist I use respectful curiosity to invite the client to envision their preferred future and then together we start attending to any moves towards it whether these are small increments or large changes.
To support this, specific questions are asked about the client’s story, eliciting strengths and resources, and exceptions to the problem.
This can often be a great relief to clients who don’t relish the thought of dredging up painful memories from the past.
Clients that come to see me are also relieved when they discover that I will not be questioning them during hypnosis, so there is no fear that they will divulge some inner secret.
It’s a misconception that hypnosis can make you say or do things against your will usually taken from watching stage hypnosis.
In fact clients often comment about how ordinary hypnosis feels, it’s not unlike day dreaming, you can hear everything that’s being said whilst being in a deeply relaxed state.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can contribute to the Governments view of the Big Society, empowering people to make positive change, this could have an impact on our communities making them stronger, all we have to do is want it.
It is important if you choose to enter into a contract with a Hypnotherapist that you ensure they are adequately qualified and registered with a membership organisation such as the National Council for Hypnotherapists or the General Hypnotherapy Register.
